Possible Probate?

I received a call from a woman claiming to be the widow of an ex-boyfriend I stored a lot of personal stuff for. I cannot confirm he got married. I don't want to turn his stuff over to just anyone. Is there a way to confirm this? I really loved my ex-boyfriend and have many memories attached to the personal property.

Several alternatives come to mind:

1. I'd ask her for the name of the administrator of the estate in probate. Failing to get that, 2. I'd ask her for a copy of her marriage certificate and a certified copy of her "husband's" death certificate (and tell her you need a few days to check on these documents) item 16 on a Washington death certificate has the name of the spouse. If this all happened in Washington you should be able to verify the death certificate with the Department of Vital Statistics and the County recorder for the marriage.
