Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Washington

My step-dad passed away on Feb. 8 in Texas. My sister, myself and my husband inheirt the house we build for my Mom before she married him. His daughter in Texas refuses to send us a copy of his will although she has emailed that we do inherit the house. How do I get a copy of his will?

Copies of wills are good for the information they provide, but typically cannot be used to probate an estate, as the original is needed and it must be filed with the court. Contact the probate court where your step-dad lived and died and ask them if there is a probate filed under your step-dad's name and if yes, ask what it will cost to get a copy of his will.

If there is no probate case for him, it may be filed in a nearby county, but usually the probate must be filed in the county of the decedent's residence, although Texas may be different...
