Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Washington
My Uncle passed, leaving no will. His closest heirs are 1 sister, 5 nieces and 1 newphew. ( As far as I know all his assets had been liquidated.)
How is the estate distributed to State, attorney, sister and nieces and newphew?

When a person passes away without a will (intestate), his assets are distributed to his "intestate successors." The court will look for the first group of heirs and stop there. So the first heir is the surviving spouse, if none, it looks for children, if none, it looks for parents, if none, it looks for siblings. Since you said your Uncle had a living sister, she would inherit all of his estate.
