Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Washington
Unmarried Partners Purchasing a Home
My partner & I are about to purchase a home together. In the event one of us were to die, we want the other to inherit all of the property. (In the event we both die, our legal heirs would equally divide it. His children are minors, mine are adult). There is a term or document for this. What is it called? Thanks!

Yes, what you want is a Will. Both of you need to execute independent Wills. Also, you may wish to execute a cohabitation agreement if you don't wish your property to be considered as quasi-community property in nature.

It is usually done with a will, which might include a trust for the minor children (only if they are still minors at the time). There are variations on this and it sounds like mutual wills or a will contract would be something that you should consider. If I can be of assistance, please contact me to set up an appointment.
