Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Washington
No Will-Who Owns the House?
Mom's 2nd husband died while they were married, no will. He had a house and son prior to Mom. House is in dead husbands name only. Mom has paid taxes and maintained house for 20+ yrs. Step son now wants house/money. What are his rights, if any?

Re: No Will-Who Owns the House?
Assuming they are Washington residents, they had no separate property agreement and all of their assets were essentially commingled or otherwise treated as community property, the stepson would have no right -- your mother as the surviving spouse of community property would receive the house.
