Confused and Frustrated! What laws apply?
I purchased this High Price vehicle after the manufacturer could not fix a different model of same make car. first car qualified as lemon in WV. Dealer and manuf. rep. worked out taking this car as trade-in and putting me in higher end model to remedy. The new car, purchased 05/03/05, has lost steering control on five separate occasions,has been out of my hands for more than 30 days, the rack and pinion has been replaced three times,and numerous other small fixes. Service dept. in CA does not believe it is a safety issue-I cannot steer the car!. I have contacted the manufacturer, the dealer who sold me second car and am getting the run around from everyone. I submitted a written request for remedy, detailing my complaints. the car is back in the shop with same complaints and company now wants to have field service engineer drive vehicle with me. I made this request months ago. Where do I pursue legal avenues? Car was bought in West Virginia and I am now living in California.

You can contact the Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org to file a complaint through their AutoLine Program. The program is designed as a first step in resolving disputes between consumers and vehicle manufacturers. The program uses independent arbitrators who hear and make a decision regarding such disputes. If you don't like the decision, you can always sue the manufacturer for breach of warranty; on the other hand, if you accept the BBB arbitrator's decision, the manufactuer is generally bound by the decision.
