Legal Question in Consumer Law in West Virginia
Magazine Subscription
Telemarketers called me back in September about a magazine subscription. I told the guy im a university student and cant really afford it, he also caught me when I was in a rush. He gave me a price of $14 every other month but didnt say for how long. And that I had a chance to win a large amount of money (which I needed at the time for tuition) So I gave him my info and then after he told me for how long it was. I said I'm really from Canada and won't be in the US that long (it was for 3 years to subscribe). I said I couldnt afford it and he offered a shorter time period for payment but in larger amounts. I was apprensive but said okay. Later his supervisor called ''to confirm the subscription'' he said. I said I reconsidered and didnt want it. He said that it's prepaid by them and that I cant cancel the subscription. The next day they took out $30. I cancelled my debt card and they haven't gotten money since. I have said numerous times to them that I want to cancel and they say I can't. I told them I said in the beginning I didnt want it so they said they would check the voice recording but never got back to me. They keep sending magazines but I'll never be able to afford this. Can I get out of this subscription?

Re: Magazine Subscription
You should report them to the BBB, local police and your state Attorney General's Office. The longer you wait to take action the more it looks like you're complying with the terms of an agreement.
