Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in West Virginia

cosigner on loan

Cosigned for auto loan with my son. He is adult age, we are now estranged and have had no contact for over a year. He is making payments but never on time. The vehicle loan lists me as the primary. Did not know this at the time loan was written. The vehicle itself is not registered in my name, nor does my name appear on the title. Can I seek to be released from the loan ( I know I can't but I am asking) and can I force the DMV of my state to include me on these documents? I want to take possession of the vehicle. Any solution to my problem?

I'm afraid its time for a Father-to-Son talk.

Without a security agreement signed by your son, you have no right to repo vehicle.

No typical lender would ever let you off the hook without assurance that your son will be good for the payments.
