Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in West Virginia

Am I Responsible for my deceased parents nursing home debts ?

My mother passed away Oct. 21, 1999 with no estate. My father passed away May 20, 2000 with no estate. They both had debts that cannot be covered. No home, cars, or savings accounts. Now, because I had my father's medical power of attorney and I signed him in and out of the nursing home they are trying to hold me responsible! Can they make me pay for his $10,000.00 nursing home debt? I have three other sisters and they aren't asking for their help. It is a collection agency that is harrassing me for the nursing home.

Normally, when a loved one enters a nursing home a close relative is requested to guarantee several months of payments to the nursing home. I would want to see the paperwork that the collection agency is using to go after you. If you did not sign anything then you should not be responsible
