Emancipation
My niece is 15 and lives in WV with her mother but was raised till the age of 4 by my mother in NYC due to being abandoned by her mother at birth in the hospital. My niece now wants to be adopted by her grandmother who wants same. What if anything can be done?

Your mother would have to be the one petitioning the court for custody. However, if your niece has been in WV for more than six months she would have to consult with an attorney there since she can not peition here in NY.

She may want to become emancipated and then be adopted by her aunt, but consult with a WV attorney.
