Legal Question in Medical Leave in West Virginia

I have been employed for five years at this company. I was in hospital with pnemonia when I discoved I had COPD. My lungs are functioning at 50% before medication and 55-60% after. I was also diagnosed with sleep apnea. While receiving short term disability I received a call from employer that I was welcome to reapply but I lost my job 17 days earlier. The company offers long term disability so I can only assume no one will ever be able to receive it as they will lose their job after the FMLA is over. What should I do?
