Legal Question in Real Estate Law in West Virginia
Changing locks on rental house
I rent a detached house in Parkersburg WV. I have lived here 2 weeks and have had a maintenance man just walk into my house using his key without knocking first. Can I change the locks on the house?

Re: Changing locks on rental house
As a renter you have the same rights as the owner because you pay to live at the house. You have a right to privacy and the right to be informed if someone is entering your house. You have every right to change the locks. If the maintence man needs to come in your home he should have no problem asking you when you are going to be home and coming over then. The same with the owner.
Good luck.
