help! cant afford to go to school because of felony posession of marajuana!

An dear friend of mine has a strong desier to become more educated, but he has a recent felony-conviction for posession of marajuana for which he will be doing 4 months of electric home monitering and as a part of his sentence the judge said that he is not to receive federal assistance for any reason. Is there a way to beat this?

Your friends inability to get federal financial aid for college wasnt part of the sentence because the court had no control over that program. Back in 1998, a provision was added to the Higher Education Act by Congress that delays or in some cases, totally denies federal financial aid to any individual convicted of a state or federal drug offense. This includes grants, student loans, or work assistance. The provision went into effect during the 2000-2001 school year. There is no way around this rule, except maybe to apply for private scholarships.
