Legal Question in Banking Law in Wisconsin
unauthorized transaction on debit card
I purchased some items from a store with a contract, pay a set amount each week. They were purchased from a store in Iowa. I'm supposed to call each Saturday to authorize a payment on my credit card, I didn't call one saturday as I forgot, so the business charged my debit card for the amount. When I asked them why they charged the amount to my card without authorization, they said that with the original contract we had to put down a credit card for the phone in payment like I was doing and with that was an authorization for that allows them to do that. But, the card that was initally listed on the form was not the one charged, I had been using a different card and they didn't have the authorization form for that card. If they'd bother to check, they would have seen that. The only way they would have gotten that number was to write it down somewhere from a previous transaction. Is there anything that can be done about this? I know I owe the money and I'm not trying to get out of that, but is there any legal recourse I could take? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You in advance for you help.
