Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Wisconsin
Where do I look for information (sites, forms etc.) about filing for bankrupcty without an attorney? We can't afford the $1,000.00 + it costs to file with an attorney's help. Any help, direction, would be appreciated.

My office website has a good deal of public information available, as does Lawguru here. Even though preparation of the 50 plus pages of forms required to file may be doable on your own for a well educated person with real estate experience, the assets which you could end up losing if not properly protected may end up costing far more than the attorney fees. Bankruptcy rules are difficult to understand, even for experienced lawyers, meaning that it is nearly impossible to get an adequate grasp on them to protect yourself from reading some "how to" pamphlet. I would therefore suggest that you keep looking for a lawyer who will work with you on the fees or set up a payment plan with you. My comments here are not legal advice, nor do they create an attorney client relationship between us. However, you are welcome to contact my office to discuss retaining me or to set up a free initial consultation at my office in Racine. I also can sometimes arrange to travel outside of Racine for initial consultations if absolutely necessary.
