Unfortunately, nothing is available for bankruptcy assistance in prisons at public expense that I know of, although Legal Action of WI sometimes provides assistance to the needy in this area of the law. It may therefore be more practical to await your release from prison, and then consider bankruptcy once you can afford it. If you cannot afford to file, it may well be the case that you don't really need to file bankruptcy since you have nothing which creditors can take away from you. Generally speaking, people file bankruptcy in order to protect assets such as protecting their wages from garnishment. Obviously, garnishment cannot occur if you have no wages and no money and if you have nothing else to lose, I'm not sure how you could benefit from a bankruptcy. My comments here are not legal advice, nor do they create an attorney client relationship between us. However, you are welcome to contact my office to discuss retaining me or to set up a free initial consultation at my office in Racine.
