false advertising
Can a company advertise a fake original price so that the consumer believes the sale price is outstanding?
I'm not sure the area of law for this question.

If a retailer actually holds a product out for sale at a price, and then discounts it, there is probably no violation. The real question is whether the product was actually held out for sale at the higher price. You would be best to go online and check out Wisconsin Statute 100.18, which relates to deceptive advertising.
