Re: limited liability companies
In Wisconsin, you could go directly to the web site
www.wdfi.org, which is the site for the State of Wisconsin
Department of Financial Organizations. There is a
do it yourself method to set up an LLC. Although an
LLC can be established in this fashion, there are
a number of periferal issues which arise when a
business is started, that usually are better solved
with a face to face contact with an attorney. These
issues include: the business contract to be used,
whether vendors are subcontractors or employees,
which type of entity is best to use, liability issues,
funding issues, and the like.
The cost of an attorney doing this work, including setting
up the LLC and putting together an operating agreement,
is usually in the area of $800 - $1,200, plus filing fees.
If you are ever considering a partner, consider having
an attorney do the work, since the operating agreement
must address many issues that are no big deal if
you work alone.
