Legal Question in Business Law in Wisconsin
Starting a similar business
Are there any federal or state (wisconsin) laws that I would have to be concerned about if I leave my current place of employment and start a business similar to the one I am currently employed? I have not signed a non-compete agreement.

If you have not signed a covenant not to compete, you still have to be careful not to take any present employer trade secrets or know how. That would include customer lists, pricing, design work, etc. Wisconsin has criminal laws that relate to such theft, as well as civil laws relating to damages. Otherwise, you are free to leave and compete.
