Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Wisconsin
Contracted Herpes II Virus from Boyfriend who did not disclose this information
I contracted the Herpes II virus from my partner, an upstanding business man of Milwaukee. He was asked, by me, if he had any STD's prior to our sexual relationship. He said that he did not. I had myself checked out by my gynecologist to make sure I had a clean bill of health, which I did. After I had a sexual encounter with this man, I contracted Herpes II, which was verified by my doctor. He then, admitted to withholding that information from me because he was embarssed that he had this disease. I have a weakened immune system and have had severe and frequent outbreaks, he will not help pay for my medication when asked. He ignores my requests. I feel that he recklessly endgangered my health for the rest of my life and should be financially responsible for his untruths. Had the truth been known, different choices would have been made on my part. Please advise me of an attorney or type of law practice who can help me fight a legal battle against this man and make him accountable for his actions. Thank you.

If you can prove that your boyfriend knew of his condition and wrecklessly caused you to contract it, he would be liable for all of your expenses and probably punitive damages as well. The problem, of course, is whether he could respond to a judgment for damages.

A personal injury lawyer is the type who handles the kind of case you describe. You may be entitled to money damages for the intentional infliction of emotional distress, among others. Your local Bar Association can provide a list of names of PI attorneys in your area. Initial consultations/case evaluations are usually done at no cost - ask first. Best of luck.
