Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Wisconsin

insurance/ dog bite

Our insurance has sent us a cancellation because we have not proven that our dog was disposed of. My question is: If our insurance runs out in March from this company will we still be covered by that company for any expense from lawyer, etc. after the policy is expired after March? We just got a notice sent of a deposition hearing scheduled in May. Does the insurance company we were with at the time of the dog bite have to cover these costs anyway, seeing that they had been paid to cover us at the time of the accident? If not, who will be responsible, us or our new company?

Re: insurance/ dog bite

Generally, as long as you had your homeowner's insurance policy was in effect at the time of the dog bite, they would provide coverage to you and an attorney to represent you. It would not usually matter if you cancelled your insurnace policy at any time after the incident itself. Your new insurance company would not generally provide any coverage for you in this incident, in that the policy was not in effect at the time of the dog bite incident.
