Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Wisconsin
Can police threaten foster care for son if they think my home is too messy?
My 16 year old son skipped school and I was unaware of it until the county police came to my home to see if he was there. I told them he was not. They threatened that if I didn't allow them in to search it would be very bad for me. I thought I didn't have a choice. They came in to search and one of the officers thought that my home wasn't clean enough and he could have my son removed to foster care! They told me I would have one week to comply before they came back to check. I was worried about my son,was ill, and I had to go into work for a few hours, but the officer told me I'd better start doing something immediately. They returned while I was gone, forced their way past my elderly mother and started taking pictures telling her social services was notified and they would be over the morning of 9/23! Can they do this? My rights?Help!

From your post it sounds as though the police are over-stepping their boundaries and exceeding their jurisdiction. Consult a lawyer in your town for specific recommendations. Your bar association can recommend one. Initial consultations/case evaluations are usually done at no cost.
