Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Wisconsin

Work Place Survalliance

I work for a company that just installed video cameras with sound for supposed security reasons and customer service issues. The live video and sound can be viewed on a secure site via the internet by management. The manager of my facility has been watching the live video and calling us to critque what we are doing. For the most part this includes non work related topics that can come up through out the day. For example she may call to say, ''Why did so and so leave the office''? or to question if other people are working on. I was just wondering if there is anything as employees that we can do about this? I am just wondering how far an employeer can go to put their employees under survalliance.

Re: Work Place Survalliance

I am not aware of any restrictions on an employer utilizing video or sound to monitor employees, other than violating privacy such as in a restroom, etc. On the other hand, if the manager is constantly calling to ask questions, it is going to affect productivity.
