Legal Question in Consumer Law in Wisconsin
Price gouging by contractor
I received a contractor''s estimate to do concrete work; his estimate was $1000, and this was accepted by me. When the work was completed, he submitted a bill for almost $3200. I told him that this was unacceptable, and I received a revised bill for almost $2700, which is still not aceptable. What is my obligation for paying a $1700 overcharge? I believe this to be very extreme, and I would like to know my rights.

Did you get the estimate in writing?
If not, what you have is a swearing match.
No telling for sure how the judge would rule.
