Legal Question in Consumer Law in Wisconsin
ridiculous charges from plumber
can a plumber charge any price they desire and can they say there were 2 plumbers here for 6 + hours for a job that honestly could be done with one guy in 6 hours? I was given an outlandish estimate I am sure because he knew I didn't have time to check around others. He said 900.00 not knowing if there would be problems. He ran 20' of drain pipe and flex tubing thru an open floor and wall. When questioned how it arrived at exactly 900.00, he said there were 2 guys for a total of 13.5 hours @ 55.00 and materials for 157.50. Can I be taken advantage of this way? Nothing was signed. Can I pay what I feel is justified without a problem. I feel that 600.00 is much closer to the truth. Do I have to pay him the whole amount? He also did not complete the work like he was suppose to.He was to shorten up the existing length and put the shut attach shut offs. This was not done. This was in the discussion with the estimate. I now have to have another plumber come in to finish the work. Please advise what I can do.

Re: ridiculous charges from plumber
Demand a detailed bill if you don't have one ( time+ materials) and show it to another PLUMBER. If they say its BS pay the bill and sue in small claims court ( or don't pay and wait til they sue)
