Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Wisconsin
Alleged 14 Year Credit Card Debt
Two days ago I received a call from a collection agency stating that me and my ex wife owe $1000 on a credit card that was opened in 1993. At that time we lived in AZ, then moved to WA and divorced in 1998 and I now live in WI and she lives in NM. I did locate a couple of cancelled checks that were made out to the credit card company in 1993 but I have no records that indicate that any additional money is owed. Should I a.)send a certified letter requesting that they validate the debt or b.)send a certified letter stating that the SOL has expired and to stop all forms of contact.

You have the right idea and could start with either or simply do both at once.
