Collections--Sale of Right to Collect a Debt
Assignment or sale of a debt to a collector is a very common practice which is perfectly legal. The collector then stands in the shoes of the seller and has no more or less right to sue than the original creditor had. If the creditor already has a judgment, the collector to whom the claim is sold can indeed sue for wage garnishment, foreclosure or seizure of assets, and numerous other post judgment enforcement techniques. You should discuss your situation with an experienced bankruptcy lawyer as soon as possible so that you know all of your options for dealing with this problem.
