WI recognizes 75% of wages as exempt from execution (seizure) by creditors, meaning that 25% of net income is the typical amount of a garnishment deduction, which can continue until the debt is paid in full. This can simultaneously be done to both spouses at the same time. If you are facing this problem, you owe it to yourself to consult with a bankruptcy attorney, since bankruptcy will stop a garnishment, and even potentially allow you to get money back (only amounts taken which exceed $600 during the 90 days prior to bankruptcy filing). My comments here are not legal advice, nor do they create an attorney client relationship between us. However, you always more than welcome to contact my office in Racine to discuss any additional questions which you may have or to set up a free consultation.
