Early Funds Release from Minor Settlement, Reaching Proceeds Prior to 18th Birthday

Unless the funds were placed into some sort of spendthrift trust, it may sometimes be possible to apply to the court in charge of the settlement for early release of a small amount money for a sufficiently good reason. Day to day living expenses may not qualify, since the parent is already legally obligated to provide those to the child. More favored investments might be such things as education expenses, prepayment of college tuition, or necessary major medical/orthodontic expenses. However, it doesn't hurt to ask for release of money for other reasons. You really should discuss this with your child's lawyer and also hire a lawyer to represent you. since your interests currently may conflict with those of your child.
