Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Wisconsin

Small claims limit

I read your response as far as an individual exceeding the small claims limit of $5000. However, I wanted to know if I have several invoices, can I split them up and file 2 claims. I would not be dividing any invoices. An entire amount would be filed under one claim. Can I do this?

Thanks for your help.

Jill

Re: Small claims limit

Hello,

I dont see why not. You could try to confirm by asking the small claims clerk, but they may not tell you if they think it is legal advice. If the two invoices are separate debts, I dont see why you cant sue for one, and then the other. You will to pay two filing fees, of course.

Best wishes, Mark J. Mahoney
