Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Wisconsin
I am on SSD I fell behind a loaned $200.00 from a place that had very high interest fees. Well I was making payments on time until I got sick. Well I fell behind and now they want payment in full or else they will start legal action. What can they do to me.
A freind told me they can not take my SSD check. Is that true?

Yes, it is true that social security checks are usually not subject to garnishment by anyone other than the IRS. However, creditors do not always follow this law and any money accumulated in a bank account or elsewhere could still be vulnerable. With that exception, as long as you cooperate in all respects with any court orders, all the creditor can probably do is place a judgment against you are seize nonexempt assets which you may own or accumulate in the future. You should probably consult with a bankruptcy attorney as well, who could not only stop the lawsuit but also the harassment which creditors can still get away with, even if you are not "collectable." However, I would be more than happy to discuss possible representation with you via a private email or via the inquiry link on my private office website.
