Legal Question in Criminal Law in Wisconsin

Criminal convictions of all types in WI stay on one's record permenantly and can adversely effect employability for life. This includes shoplifting. However, with the consent of the DA, persons under age 21 can sometimes come back to court and request expungement for meisdemeanore convictions after they have remained out of trouble for an extended period and succesfully completed their sentence. Another way to avoid a criminal record is to talk the DA into reducing the charge to a noncriminal matter such as an ordinance violation, or into some sort of hold open agreement.
