Legal Question in Criminal Law in Wisconsin
Is there anyway to get a bond lowered once it has been set?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Yes, with proper notice and a hearing, a WI judge can review and reconsider bond at any time. However, the bond is unlikely to change unless new information is brough forward at the hearing which would cause the judge to change his mind on the issues which determine bond. These include the likelihood that the defendant will appear for court and stay out of trouble which the case is pending, the seriousness of the offense, his connections and positive contributions to the community and prior record. You therefore owe it to yourself to immedately discuss your bond wiht an experienced criminal lawyer who is familiar with the judge who is hearing your case and what factors he or she dends to consier most important.
