Yes, unauthorized use of credit cards, particularly online, violates at least a hundred different laws including major federal felonies which are investigated by the FBI. In Wisconsin, identity theft is commonly charged by District Attorneys in this situation, which is punishable by years in the state prison system. Perhaps even worse, Wisconsin's online public database makes everything which goes on in its court system easily available to the general public. Long after one's sentence has been served, this database available to everyone from potential employers to nosey neighbors, all of whom will immediately learn that you have been convicted of a felony fraud offense. This will immediately disqualify you for any jobs where an employer would need to trust you, probably for the rest of your life, since this "one click" public online database never changes one is on it. If you have done something like this, you owe it to yourself to immediately schedule a private appointment with an experienced criminal defense attorney to determine your next step. For example, promptly refunding any funds stolen can sometimes make it more difficult for authorities to convict you because it might ruin their ability to prove in court that you intended to defraud anyone.
