A coworker on 2 occasions has looked through my purse and cell phone when I am out of the room. What can I do?

I would first report this theft attempt to your employer, and then let your employer decide whether or not to report it to the police. However, either way, you would have a right to file your own police report, which will be critical if you ever suffer a major loss and need to make a claim against your homeowners insurance. Your employer needs to know because this person may be attempting to steal from the employer (or other workers) too. Your employer may decide to investigate the employee through covert means such as hidden security cameras, marked bait money, etc., in order to catch them in the act. Solving the employer's problem will probably also solve yours. Of course, you must always look out for your own best interests as well, perhaps by not leaving your purse unattended at your desk. However, I may be able to formally represent you if you contact my Racine office and make arrangements to retain me. I also represent clients throughout WI.
