Legal Question in Criminal Law in Wisconsin
Drug paraphernalia on permanent record???
This occured at about 3:45am. I was alone and visiting Twin Lakes, Wisconsin from where I live in Iowa for a concert. There was no traffic at the time although, when I was trying to get out of Wisconsin I got a little lost and pulled over to the side of the county road about 500 ft. before an intersection and turned on my caution lights. As I started to look at my atlas two squad cars pulled up behind me. They requested consent for a search. I did not give consent. They searched anyway and found a small glass pipe which I had been using to smoke marijuana for my own use. They wrote me a ticket for $676 which I paid for with my credit card. This happend Sunday morning July 30th and my court date is for Tuesday August 1st. Will this be on my permanent record? Is this offense a mistorminor? Can the police charge that much for this offense?

Re: Drug paraphernalia on permanent record???
I do not understand how you paid for a ticket before a court hearing on the subject. I suggest that you retain the services of a competent criminal defense attorney in Wisconsin as this charge will probably be a permanent criminal record. There may be issues concerning the search of your car that need to be gone into.
I suggest you enter a plea of not guilty tomorrow and then get thee to an attorney, unless you would like to keep explainig this charge forever and ever. Even a minor drug conviction could cause you to be unable to get federal student loans, for one thing.
