Legal Question in Criminal Law in Wisconsin

I am a felon my parole is was done a long time ago 8 yrs. My wife likes to hunt, is it legal for her guns to be in our house as long as they are locked up in a cabinet that she has the keys to?

As a convicted felon, you are under a lifetime ban from possession of firearms under both WI state law and under totally separate federal laws. You would therefore potentially be at risk of being charged any time that you were in the presence of or same location as firearms. While your wife locking up her own guns might help, it would not rule out your prosecution under an argument that they were still available to you, which might be enough to support a conviction. A better precaution might therefore be for her to keep them outside the home. Nothing short of a gubernatorial pardon could reinstate your right to bear arms under WI law and it is an open question whether or not even that would help under some federal laws. Reopening and amendment of the conviction to a misdemeanor could also help, although this could be very difficult to accomplish. .
