Yes, if the police execute a search warrant on your residence and they find contraband under circumstances that suggest it was yours (or you were somehow assisting those who had it), you will likely face criminal charges and should immediately consult with an experienced criminal lawyer. Although they will usually charge everyone in the house who had access to the contraband, they sometimes will attempt to narrow it down to certain individuals if circumstances suggest that it belonged to them alone and the others had no knowledge of it. They usually have up to six years to make up their minds whether or not to charge you, although this normal statute of limitations does not apply to homicide related charges, which can be brought at any time, regardless of how it take to solve the case. Please do not assume that I am your attorney because of my response here, but feel free to call my office in Racine (262-633-3090 or email [email protected]) for clarifications regarding my answer. Otherwise, under the ordinary circumstances of my responding here, I would not be taking any action on your case. See me on the web at www.jayknixonlaw.com.
