Open Intoxicant charge for transporting a keg

Hello-

My friend and I were detained and issued open intoxicant tickets in Madison over the Halloween weekend. We were heading to a costume party on campus dressed as ghostbusters and our ''proton packs'' were composed of a 5 gallon soda keg with roughly a gallon of mixed drinks. We were not dispensing the alcohol on the street and we were not intoxicated when we were detained. We were very cooperative as we are both upstanding citizens with no criminal records and were unaware that we were not able to carry a keg. We both live in the Minneapolis area and have pretrials in Madison next week. I'm told I can reschedule that or speak to the DA over the phone. I'm confident I can get it reduced, but I can't believe that what we did was actually illegal and it appears that we were, essentially, victims of a crackdown on the Halloween crowds. Can you tell me if I would have a case or let me know who I could contact as the internet is not yielding me much for results and I don't really want to take a couple days off of work to argue this thing or find representation. I'd appreciate any help you can offer me.

Because the event you describe happened in Wisconsin, and the case is in a Wisconsin court, you will need to discuss this with a lawyer licensed to practice law in Wisconsin (not Minnesota). The fact that you live in Minnesota does not change this. I am a Minneosta lawyer, only.
