Legal Question in Criminal Law in Wisconsin
Has a person with a Wisconsin Concealed Carry permit who enters a private business that has posted a no weapons sign broken the law at the time of entry, or are they simply required to leave the property if asked and have only broken the law if they refuse to do so.

I have not read over the WI concealed carry law recently, but my understanding of it is that entry with an otherwise permitted weapon onto premises marked as a "no weapons" zone constitutes the crime of trespass in WI, which is generally a misdemeanor. You could also be held civilly liable for any resulting damages, such as accidental discharge of the weapon, face punitive damages, etc. In short, it is a bad idea to violate this law; instead simply find a different merchant who does not so post their store against concealed carry permit holders. Another little known fact is that even with a permit, it is always a crime in WI to possess a firearm while under the influence of intoxicants. This more or less turns all bars, taverns, or restaurants serving alcohol into no carry zones if you are consuming, regardless of any posting by the owner.
