Petty Theft Convictions--Will They Show Up During a Pre-Employment Investigation?
Yes, any misdemeanor theft conviction will generally be noticed by an employer in WI during a background check, since all convictions are posted online. What I don't know, however, is whether you were indeed charged with a misdemeanor in circuit court, since theft can also be charged as an ordinance violation which would often involve a municipal court. Some municipal courts also report their convictions on line and the conviction would always show up in the files of the arresting law enforcement agency. Anyone so charged really needs to discuss their situation with an experience criminal lawyer in order to learn all the consequences of conviction.
