my 18 year old niece had a party at her apartment. 2 people came that she did not know and brought thc. the police came because of noise and they ran and left the thc. they have checked for her fingerprints and have found none. she was scheduled for a jury trial in sept. and they are now offering a plea deal of 18 months supervision. She has never been in any trouble. what do you think she should do? thanks, cassie

Re: Plea Bargain
Though it's really hard to say without actually speaking with her to ascertain all the facts, that probation would likely be an acceptable settlement of the case if it were for charges amended to one or more other offense(s) than the drug possession with which I presume she was originally charged (like one or more disorderly-conduct charges, which I'm sure would fit the factual scenario of an 18-year-old holding a noisy party at his or her apartment).
Possession of THC, Probation Plea Bargain Offer for 18 Year Old
Your niece needs an experienced criminal defense attorney as soon as possible. With proper attention to detail, there may be a way for her to accept the offer and eventually end up with no record. Additionally, fingerprint evidence can often be disputed via expert testimony. Finally, there may be technical defenses available to her that would only be spotted after an experienced criminal lawyer has thoroughly investigated and analyzed the case. Good luck!
