No, probabtion is a sentencing option that a court may impose in lieu of a period of confinement when no minimum mandatoryn period of inprisonment is required by statute (certain crimes, like some drug offenses, require some minimum mandatory prison time). However, a court may decide to impose some short period of "condition time" in the county jail to earn probation (i.e., a judge can make you do 30 days straight time or time in the Huber facility with work-release, as a condition precedent to earning the privilege of avoiding a much longer prison sentence and getting put on probation for some period of time).
