Legal Question in Criminal Law in Wisconsin

This bill has not yet been passed. It went to a public hearing in March, 2009 and, as of the date of this writing, it is awaiting a hearing before the Criminal Justice Committee before it can go before the full state assembly for a vote to pass it. In the event that it passes a full assembly vote, then it must go to the state senate where there are some senators sponsoring/supporting it. In the event the provisions in it relative to the new expungement proposals eventually become law, then it will be a matter of filing a motion with the circuit court in the county where you were convicted in order to get your conviction expunged. As of this time, the assembly bill provisions only allow expungement for misdemeanors, and H- & I-level felonies, and only for those persons 25 years of age or younger.
