As a Racine County criminal attorney, I see a large number of clients who have been arrested at Alpine Valley concerts. However, without seeing your citation, I cannot tell which country you were charged in, nor can I tell which court (municipal vs. . circuit court) you were sent to. The decision on whether or not it is worthwhile to fight sometimes depends upon which court you are in. Municipal court tickets often only involve a fine, depending upon the charge, while Circuit court criminal charges always carry the possibility of jail time. However, in any court, a possession of THC (or possession of any controlled substance) can, in addition to the fine, carry a large number of frightening penalties including losing eligibility for college financial aid, housing assistance, and many other benefits, as well as loss of drivers license. If any of these things concern you, you must consult with an experienced criminal lawyer immediately. Time is of the essence, since many of your options in fighting a ticket, including your right to a jury trial and right to transfers the case to circuit court, expire on your first court date. My comments here are not legal advice, nor do they create an attorney client relationship between us. However, you are welcome to contact my Racine office to discuss possibility of retaining me or to set up a free initial consultation. I also can sometimes arrange to travel outside of Racine for initial consultations if absolutely necessary.
