While nobody should be arrested on made up charges, the sad fact is that it happens all the time. If you are victim of one, all you can do is to use your one chance to fight it at trial wisely, with the assistance of an experienced criminal lawyer. Restraining order cases can indeed go either way in any new encounter, even if it is a "he said, she said" situation. You wisely avoided that by remaining in a public location, where there were other witnesses who could be subpoenaed to court for your trial if needed. If you retain an attorney before you are charged, he or she could make a strategic decision to possibly supply some of this witness information to authorities before you are charged, although many attorneys might also opt for a "wait and see" approach instead, out of fear that the police interviews might sometimes scare off your witnesses.
