Solicitng a Minor Online--Penalties

Solicitation of a minor to commit illegal sexual acts (which means ALL sexual acts for minors in WI) can receive long periods of prison in both state and federal systems. This is equally true if it occurs in person or online. There are literally dozens of laws which could potentially apply, so I would need more specifics as to what exactly occurred before I could speculate as to which ones any branch of the government might use to prosecute such a person. Ironically, these crimes apply equally to minors who solicit other minors. In WI, they are subject to the same penalties as adults with no consideration of the fact that they might be the same age as the person they are soliciting. For example, two 15 year olds in WI who have consensual sexual contact with one another are both subject to a possible 20 years or more in prison. Anyone who is in fear of being charged with such crimes should have a confidential consultation as soon as possible with an experienced felony attorney. No other professionals, including doctors and counselors, have the lawful ability to keep such a conversation confidential--professionals other than attorneys are obligated under law to report all possible sexual conduct involving minors to the authorities.
