Legal Question in Criminal Law in Wisconsin
Is the statute of limitations, for federal wire fraud, 5 years normally and 10 years if against a institution? Could you tell me if that is true?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Yes, five years is the normal statute of limitations (SOL) for most federal crimes, but that period often only begins to run from the date of discovery of many crimes. Nearly all levels of government toll statutes of limitations under various circumstances, such as when the defendant is a fugitive or otherwise unavailable for prosecution. Many crimes involving financial institutions also have their own extended statutes. If you might be facing such a charge, you should immediately schedule a private consultation with an experienced criminal lawyer who handles federal cases.
