Legal Question in Criminal Law in Wisconsin

need help in theft accusation

I downloaded material from a company i was employed with for work at home scenario. It was company lists and database. I then decided to quit and the companies view is I stole this information. My intent was to set up an e mail campaign and referral campaign for the company. They are going to file criminal charges and it looks bad. I have not used nor ever intend on using the information. I have in fact deleted it never contacting mailing or doing anything with it. I have not been contacted by police officials yet. Any advice would be helpful

Employee Theft of Database, Trade Secrets, from Employer

You need to retain an experienced criminal lawyer as soon as possible. It may be possible to undo some of the damage if you can settle civilly first with your former employer. This may entail surrendering all copies of the database (including hard drives) and paying their legal fees and costs. You would also probably need to prove that you never shared the information. If not handled correctly, you could end up facing a serious felony, even federal charges. We are in the midst of a major crackdown for all computer crime by authorities at all levels of government, so you could unfortunately end up being an "example" or poster child of why others should not commit computer crimes. Being such an example nearly always involves a harsher sentence. My comments here are not intended to create an attorney client relationship; you really need to hire your own attorney.
