Legal Question in DUI Law in Wisconsin

I got a 3rd dui about three years ago (roughly 9 years after my second). Im looking for work and wondering if, on an employment application, "have you ever been convicted of a crime" needs to be answered yes? no property damage, no injuries, just pulled over after making a stupendusly dumb mistake.

Yes, if you are going to be honest on your employment applications, you would need to list 3rd offense drunken driving in WI on a past criminal conviction, since such a conviction is such a serious crime that it is likely to result in a year in jail. And, if you didn't list OWI 3rd or any other WI conviction, any sensible employer would likely find the conviction on his or her own via WIs user friendly court records online database. Your best bet is therefore to confront the issue "head on" by admitting it, but then pointing out that you have not only maintained absolute sobriety for many years but are also a group leader in AA and have successfully sponsored a dozen other recovering alcoholics who have maintained sobriety for a number of years. This could turn a negative into a positive, since almost every employer has problems with substance abuse in his or her workforce, and would therefore welcome such a free employee assistance program as yourself. Otherwise your future employment opportunities are likely to be extremely limited in WI. These comments are not intended as legal advice but are instead offered only for public educational purposes. My response does not constitute legal representation.
